    Position Description

    The General Manager- Art Center is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising all aspects of operations and programming at the Edina Art Center.
     
    The duties and responsibilities of this job are performed with latitude for independent judgment in accordance with Department and City policies, Federal, State and Local regulations and are based on detailed knowledge of Department operations.  Work is subject to periodic review by the supervisor, who provides input on approval of recommendations, and discusses assignments, priorities, and work.
    The Art Center Manager supervises one Pottery Studio Supervisor, one part-time office support person and numerous Art Center support staff.
     

    Essential Functions
    • Plans, directs, and supervises the day to day operations of the Edina Art Center
      • Develops and manages all long-term planning for Art Center operations including capital improvement plans;
      • Manages center, including schedules and inspections;
      • Coordinates daily and preventive repairs and maintenance for the Center;
      • Evaluates procedures, policies and practices and makes necessary modifications based upon new innovations or for improved efficiency;
      • Develops strategies to provide optimum experience for public;
      • Prepares  reports  and surveys for City Council and the Arts and Culture Commission for decision-making purposes;
      • Evaluates, approves and makes purchases of equipment and supplies; and
      • Plans for usage and programs to maximize potential income.
    • Provides supervision and leadership to employees and volunteers
    • Provides training and work direction;
    • Recommends hiring, termination, and promotions;
    • Sets goals and objectives and monitors performance of direct reports; and
    • Conducts ongoing feedback, coaching, mentoring and timely performance reviews.
    • Manages the facility's budget
      • Using independent judgment prepares and monitors annual budget and capital improvement budget, making or recommending adjustments as necessary;
      • Develops short and long term business plans including determining pricing, staffing, facility modifications  and marketing;
      • Prepares requests for annual funding and presents requests to decision-makers for approval;
      • Approves expenditures that are within the budget and within the authorized approval limits of the job; and
      • Negotiates with vendors and contractors, and works to ensure the most cost effective alternatives are identified when planning expenditures.
    • Communicates courteously and professionally and maintains working relationships with others in carrying out job functions.
      • Directs ongoing promotional and public relations programs to include the use of social media;
      • Communicates with others relating to work assignments and progress of work or to convey information about conditions or work related needs; and
      • Communications include responsibility for maintaining relationships with user groups as well as any other groups key to the function.
    • Represents the City to the community; acts as the liaison to the Arts & Culture Commission.
    • Coordinator of the Fall into the Arts Festival.
    • Performs other duties and activities as assigned.
    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:
    The job requires a Bachelor's degree in Art, Art History, Parks and Recreation, or related field, and five years of experience in recreation programming including supervisory and customer service experience, or equivalent.  A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required.
