      Position Summary 

    This position is responsible for managing the exhibit production department, ensuring that exhibits and experiences meet timeline, budget and quality expectations.  This position coordinates with all others involved in the exhibit production process, including experience developers, designers, prop specialists, scenic painters, museum experience team and facilities team, to ensure everyone is in alignment on project work.  This position allocates resources and directs the work of the fabrication team.  This position directly supervises two fabricators, a scenic painter and department interns and volunteers.

    Major Job Accountabilities

    • Manage production and maintenance for on-site exhibits and experiences.  Work closely with experience developer and designer to provide input on experience production.  Manage multiple projects of various scales, including timelines, budgets, and workload.  Work with operations team and experience developer to find solutions for ongoing maintenance issues.
    • Advise on materials and fabrication methods that ensure quality product that is durable and safe for use by large numbers of children.  Assist with prototyping, value engineering and problem solving.  Research and source materials.  Work with vendors and suppliers to get product or service information, samples, and price estimates as needed
    • Provide supervision and administrations for exhibit production department.  Set and manage annual goals for department and staff.  Manage annual department budget and assist in building and managing project budgets.  Oversee maintenance of the shop and all shop equipment and tools. 
    • Coordinate TE shipping and installations for St Paul and Rochester.  Work with originating museum on any issues during the run of the exhibit.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

    • Knowledge of exhibit fabrication techniques, materials and best practices
    •  Knowledge of shop safety and maintenance practices
    • Skill in planning and coordinating projects
    • Skill in organizing materials and information
    • Skills in written, oral and interpersonal communication
    • Ability to motivate people, including project development team members, contractors, advisors, to ensure optimum performance
    • Ability to find creative solutions to complicated problems
    • Ability to effectively manage and track multiple projects simultaneously, work well under pressure and meet deadlines
    • Ability to connect disparate ideas and concepts

    Qualifications

    • Formal education, training, or experience in the area of shop management, exhibit design, production, architecture, engineering or other related field.
    • Minimum of 3 year’s experience supervisory experience.
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment in a cross-disciplinary manner.
    • Strong verbal, written and graphic communication skills.
    • Strong project management skills.
