    JOB SUMMARY

    Central to the visitors’ experience is the rich weave of artifact-based and interactive exhibits that we create onsite, contextualizing the fascinating stories of our 116-year history and showcasing our world-class collection.  Providing a consistent visitor experience requires this role to develop and manage annual and long-range project plans for the interpretive exhibits.

    Leading the Curatorial and Exhibits teams, you will be expected to partner with Museum management, the Archives team, and various contractors and vendors to shape abstract, creative visions into interactive and engaging experiences for Museum visitors.  

    To be successful in this role you will need to be adept at articulating a compelling creative vision, leading large and small projects through an iterative process that allows that vision to take shape and evolve as each project unfolds; in other words, you will need to balance the rigid, transactional parts of your job with the fluidity that creativity demands.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Major responsibilities for this role will include the direct oversight and supervision of the Curatorial and Exhibits teams. The specific duties for this role include, but are not limited to:

    ·       Leading the design and implementation of a consistent and interactive experience for Museum visitors.

    ·       Guiding project teams in securing new historical resources for the Museum.

    ·       Planning, developing, and implementing Museum exhibits using both internal and external resources.

    ·       Serving as a project leader and lead exhibit developer on specific Museum related projects.

    ·       Monitoring and analyzing all projects to ensure that goals and objectives for content development and interpretive design.

    ·       Developing and managing department and project budgets.

    ·       Developing and maintaining departmental processes and procedures based on industry best-practices.

    ·       Initiating and implementing departmental policies and project implementation strategies.

    ·       Acting as a key spokesperson in the Museum for the creation of historical articles for internal and external publications and presentations.

    EDUCATION

    Bachelor’s degree is required, ideally in a related field of study.

    EXPERIENCE

    Eight years of related

    experience developing public facing exhibits, ideally in a Museum setting is required.

    ·       This experience will have provided qualified applicants the opportunity to apply experiential design principles to broadly engaging, sustainable exhibits combining traditional exhibit techniques with high-concept design, media, and interactive experiences.

    ·       A strong understanding of exhibit production techniques, exhibit materials, and project management will be critical in leading the development and implementation of projects ranging from periodic updates to 10,000 square foot temporary exhibits.
