The University of Northern Iowa Department of Art seeks qualified candidates for the position of Gallery Director. This role is a full time position whose primary responsibilities include planning, installing, and supporting the annual series of exhibitions in the UNI Gallery of Art, as well as maintaining and overseeing the University's Permanent Art Collection. The Gallery Director works with the Department Head, faculty, and staff in the Department of Art, and other university constituents to facilitate the Gallery and Permanent Collection as a resource for UNI and the community. The director oversees work-study students and volunteers, and the collection database. The position also includes coordinating the development of promotional materials. Finally, the candidate will teach two courses per academic year for the Department of Art.

MA or MFA in related art field or MA in art history or museum studies required.

At least three years of experience preparing, exhibiting, and curating art shows; familiarity with museum standards and best practices; strong written and oral communication skills; proficient in handling, installing, and hanging art objects of all media for gallery presentations; commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion required. Occasional work outside normal hours will be necessary.

Demonstrated leadership in arts programming and accessibility; college-level teaching experience; experience working with studio art faculty; grant writing experience; experience working with boards and diverse constituencies; experience cataloging artwork within a database; and experience as registrar of objects is preferred.
